We don’t normally spend Thanksgiving with family because they all live a plane flight away, so I thought this year it would be a lovely idea to have the kids make a card to send to their grandparents. Instead of having them draw pictures like we would normally do, I decided to make this a learning experience and gave them a sewing lesson at the same time with this fun Thanksgiving craft.
What you will need:
- Blank cards (I found a pack of square cards with rounded corners at Walmart for $1)
- Yarn (in assorted colors)
- Pencil
- Plastic yarn needle
- Fall cookie cutters (or some imagination)
To make:
Place the cookie cutter on the front of the card and trace around it with the pencil. Place dots around the shape and then punch a hole using the yarn needle. Younger children will be able to help with tracing, older children can assist with punching the holes.
Cut yarn and thread the yarn needle for younger child to begin sewing.
Tie off colors if they are going to be changing them as they go along.
And there you have it, lovely fall cards perfect for sending to family and friends you won’t have a chance to see this Thanksgiving.
Who will you spend Thanksgiving with? Do you make Thanksgiving cards to send to family and friends? Let me know in the comments below.

Such a cute craft to keep the kiddos busy on a cold afternoon!
My boys and I are so going to do this!
What a fabulous idea! Great for developing those fine motor skills. I’ll be looking for some inexpensive cards this week.
This is great! We’ll definitely do this soon!
