No doubt you’ve heard about Honey Boo Boo by now. She’s the seven-year-old beauty contestant pageant that’s taken the pop culture world by storm with her over-the-top antics and her family’s southern style.
Honey Boo Boo’s real name is Alana Thompson. She came to fame when she was younger after appearing on TLC’s Toddlers & Tiaras show, but her funny interviews and silly dancing earned her family their own spinoff show, that’s already become one of the most popular reality shows of 2012.

Alana is now known as Honey Boo Boo because when she was no Toddlers & Tiaras, she was always saying “Honey Boo Boo Child” at the end of each sentence as a way to be funny. It became so popular, it’s now her nickname.
With a dad they call Sugar Bear that likes to go mud bogging, sisters who go by Chubbs, Chickadee and Pumpkin, and a mom whose main pastime is extreme couponing, there’s definitely no shortage of interesting occurrences going on in the Thompson household. And that’s not even mentioning Honey Boo Boo herself.
So what is it about Honey Boo Boo that makes her so popular? Well, among one segment of the population she’s even been called the “Redneck Messiah” as a personality who represents a segment of American culture that’s invisible in mainstream pop culture. And although all the family members have larger than life personalities, there’s a certain amount of wisdom in their funny phrases and views on things.
While there are those that seem to enjoy Honey Boo Boo simply for entertainment, many experts are concerned that folks watching the show are actually making fun of her and her family.
But you may be surprised to read that at least so far, Alana hasn’t let the fame go to her head completely. She recently announced that she’s attempting to capitalize on her popularity by encouraging folks to donate to a local toy drive, and proceeds from t-shirt sales with some of her catchphrases are also going to charity. There’s a great lesson to be learned to there, Zui readers, especially for anyone who watches the show only to make fun of her and her family.
No matter why it is you like the show, you’ll enjoy this remix video of Honey Boo Boo put together by TLC with many of her catch phrases and best moves set to music.
